Video Captures Florida sinkhole destroying building.

  • A 100 foot sinkhole was caught opening 15 feet and swallows part of a Florida villa in Clermont.
  • One of the buildings were destroyed and 105 other people evacuated.
  • This ties to Human/Environment Interaction since the sinkhole is interacting with the man-made building.
  • Also the sinkhole could be considered a physical feature of Florida's land.

Brazil sends more environmental inspectors to the Amazon rain forest.

  • Brazil increased the number of inspectors to halt the rise in illegal deforestation.
  • The region was upped to combat a new tactic by loggers.
  • In 2012, deforestation destroyed 4,600 sq. kilometers which was the lowest since 2004 that was at 28,000 sq. kilometers were deforested.
  • This ties to Human/Environmental Interaction because of the inspectors protecting the Amazon.
  • Location is tied into this because of the inspectors preventing deforestation in a relative location (the Amazon).

Mudslides in Mexico kills at least 13 people after the tropical storm Fernand.

  • Fernand brought heavy rainfall late Sunday the 25th of August causing mudslides.
  • All the people that were killed their deaths were caused by the mudslides burying their homes.
  • The storm was expected to dump 4 - 8 inches of rain on the mid-eastern states of Mexico.
  • This event ties to the Sierra Madre Oriental and parts of the Gulf Coastal Plains since that is where the storm took place.
  • Human/Environmental Interaction ties to this because of the mudslides killing people.

Biggest air response since Katrina: Helicopters search for 1,200 missing in Colorado flood.

  • At least 5 were killed by the floods that the authorities know of.
  • Nearly 17,000 homes were left wrecked by the floods.
  • All phone service is out. So, there is no way of knowing how many more people are stranded.
  • At least 16 National Guard Helicopters stand by in Larmier County.
  • The rain will "taper off" til Monday (9/16) as the forecasters said. Although this brings another challenge, fog.
  • Ties to Colorodo's natural resources since the water that mede counties flood probably came off the Colorodo river.
  • The Colorodo River is an estuary and the Colorado river isn't very far from Boulder, Colorado.

Costa Concordia, capsized ship, is pulled upright.

  • Finally, after 20 months of being left off the island Giligo, capsized, engineers in Italy have succeded in pulling the ship upright.
  • This took 19 hours using cables and metal tanks to roll the ship onto a platform.
  • Some 32 people were killed and only 2 of them were never found.
  • 5 people were convicted for the disaster and the captain is facing being charged with killing the people who died.
  • This ties to the Mediterranean Sea because the wreck occured in it.
  • Also ties to the Appenine Peninsula since this also occured off the coast off Italy or Appenine Peninsula.

Unknown Matisse, Chagall, and Dix artworks found in Nazi-looted haul. 

  • More than 1,300 peices of artworks were found in Germany.
  • There was mix of oil paintings, sketchings, ink.,  watercolor, lithographs and prints.
  • The Nazis took the peices from galleries because they considered them as degenerate. Some were taken from Jewish families or were sold by the owners for a fraction of the price so they could flee the country.
  • The man who owns the apartment where the artworks were found, his father was an art collector who dealt in works with the Nazis. The man's father claimed that the peices were desrtoyed near the end of World War 2.
  • This relates to the Nazis coming and taking almost all that the Jewish families had.
  • Also this relates to the Nazis believing that the Jews were not actual humans therefore, anything they made is not anything of value.
